Privacy Policy

SnipWise is a Chrome extension that provides a side-panel AI workspace for pages, screenshots, selected text, files, document text, tables, charts, code, images, flashcards, and saved outputs.

Plain-language summary.
SnipWise does not automatically send every page you visit to AI. Content is sent when you run a feature that needs it, such as asking about the current tab, submitting a chat message, generating an image, analyzing document text, using the coding agent, or asking the data/science tools, or asking a location-aware question.
Notebooks and clips. Text you clip with the selection bar, your notebooks, organized outlines, and compiled study kits are stored locally in Chrome extension storage on your device. Clip content is only transmitted when you explicitly run Organize or Compile, and then only to the SnipWise worker for that request.

Information SnipWise may process

  • Prompts, follow-up messages, selected text, pasted text, and custom instructions you submit.
  • Visible screenshots or snipped image areas you choose to include in a request.
  • Current-tab context when you refresh context or run a page-aware feature, such as page title, URL, headings, readable text, selected text, visible link summaries, browser-visible page signals, and browser time-zone details.
  • Files, images, PDFs, zip/project source files, CSV/TSV/JSON/HTML/XLSX-style table data, scientific resources, and document text you intentionally attach, paste, upload, extract, chart, or analyze.
  • Browser-approved location details, such as approximate latitude, longitude, accuracy, and time zone, only when you ask a location-aware question such as weather, local time, nearby places, traffic, or local recommendations.
  • Generated outputs such as answers, code files, image previews, document briefs, data analysis, flashcards, study sets, saved Library items, exports, and local preferences.
  • Subscription and payment status from ExtensionPay/Stripe, such as paid status, plan nickname, billing portal access, and subscription email when available.
  • Usage data needed to enforce fair-use limits, including install identifier, approximate credit usage, feature mode, date/month counters, and abuse-prevention metadata.
  • Technical request metadata processed by hosting/security providers, such as request time, IP address, browser user agent, error logs, and Worker response status.

How content is used

SnipWise uses submitted content to provide the requested feature: page chat, screenshot analysis, image generation, code assistance, zip/project editing, document research, Data Lab, Science Desk, flashcard generation, local weather/time answers, saved outputs, exports, usage limits, support, debugging, abuse prevention, and service reliability. Location is requested through Chrome only when a location-aware request needs it and is not used for continuous tracking.

AI providers

The hosted SnipWise Worker may route requests to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, and xAI depending on the selected model or feature. Provider API keys are stored server-side and are not included in the Chrome extension package or public website.

Feature routing

OpenAI handles default page AI, image generation, data help, and final research synthesis. Claude handles coding and project-file edits. Gemini can extract document, PDF, and resource details. DeepSeek handles Science Desk. Grok can be selected for general chat. SnipWise may use a weather lookup service for location-based weather answers.

User control

You choose when to submit a prompt, screenshot, document text, file content, table, or current-tab context. Local Library and flashcard data remain on your device unless submitted to an AI feature.

Local storage

The extension may store preferences and workspace data locally in Chrome extension storage, including theme, launcher setting, default model, recent chat/workspace state, saved Library items, flashcards, and parsed table/chart state. Attached files are read for the active request and are not added to local Library unless you save an output. Removing the extension may remove locally stored extension data.

Payments

Paid plans are handled through ExtensionPay and Stripe. SnipWise does not receive full card numbers. Payment processors may collect billing information according to their own privacy policies.

Data retention

Local extension data remains on your browser until deleted by you, overwritten by the extension, or removed with the extension. Server-side usage counters are retained only as long as needed for daily/monthly fair-use limits and abuse prevention. Hosting and provider logs may be retained according to the relevant provider settings and policies.

Security

SnipWise uses a hosted Worker to keep AI provider keys away from the extension and website. The Worker applies plan checks, credit limits, and secret-like output redaction. No system is perfect, so avoid submitting passwords, API keys, private keys, session cookies, medical records, financial account numbers, or other sensitive secrets unless you fully understand the risk.

Chrome extension permissions

SnipWise uses Chrome extension permissions to show the side panel, store extension settings, request browser geolocation for location-aware answers you ask for, capture selected/specified screen content when you request it, read the active tab context when you trigger page-aware features, and run the page-side launcher/selection helper on normal webpages. Optional host access is requested only when needed for page context or page-side helpers.

Children

SnipWise is not intended for children under 13. Do not use SnipWise if you are not allowed to use AI tools or paid browser extensions in your school, workplace, or jurisdiction.

Your choices

  • Do not submit content you do not want processed by hosted AI providers.
  • Disable the page-side launcher from settings.
  • Deny Chrome location permission or clear it in Chrome site/extension settings if you do not want location-aware answers.
  • Use local-only Library/flashcard features without sending those saved items to AI unless you run an AI generation feature.
  • Cancel paid subscriptions through the billing portal.
  • Contact support for privacy or account questions.

Changes to this policy

SnipWise may update this policy when features, providers, pricing, infrastructure, or legal requirements change. The updated date above shows the latest revision.
